09.11.15Creative Impulse and Voyage Media Launch Screenplay-to-Comic Business

Los Angeles, CA, September 11, 2015 -- Transmedia production company Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) and screenwriting development hub Voyage Media have partnered to launch a screenplay-to-comic-book adaptation business. CIE and Voyage will jointly work with emerging screenwriters and authors to produce various forms of comic book content to pre-visualize and build brand awareness for their stories prior to pitching to Hollywood production companies, studios, and networks.

As an initial release, today the partners are introducing a new format to the comic book industry – the Graphic Screenplay. CIE’s “JFH: Justice For Hire", the most downloaded mixed martial arts series on several digital comic book platforms, is the inaugural project to receive the Graphic Screenplay treatment – a first-of-it’s-kind format that gradually bleeds a graphic novel into a traditional screenplay. Executives from CIE and Voyage comment:

“Partnering with Voyage allows us to share best practices we’ve developed for merging the mediums of comics and film while planting seeds for more creator-driven content across media." CIE CEO Jan Lucanus continues, “The ‘JFH’ Graphic Screenplay sets the stage for a new way for writers to articulate their complete vision, plus it’s a treat for ‘JFH’ fans. The release amounts to 12 full-sized comic book issues packed into one book, concluding a story-arc that fans have awaited for 8 years."

“We’re very excited about aligning forces with Creative Impulse," says Voyage CEO Nat Mundel, “Not only is this a way for emerging creators to visually showcase their stories to the entertainment industry, but it also creates a much needed, first-step revenue stream for their I.P."

Initiator of the deal between CIE & Voyage and founder of Nine Dot Entertainment, Patrick Brennan, adds, “The comic medium has always been a great format to visualize a feature film or TV concept while simultaneously getting a product on the market. With this partnership, we are going to bring exciting new brands to audiences and empower talented writers to take ownership of their own careers while we are at it."

Creators can participate in the script-to-comic program on http://voyagemedia.com/get-connected/. “JFH: Justice For Hire – The Graphic Screenplay" is available today on all digital comic book stores, Google Play Books, Amazon Kindle, and Scribd.

05.28.15CREATIVE IMPULSE TO LAUNCH IRISH GODDESS SUPERHERO WITH “THE BALLAD OF BRIGHID OF ATLANTA”

-- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --

CREATIVE IMPULSE TO LAUNCH IRISH GODDESS SUPERHERO WITH “THE BALLAD OF BRIGHID OF ATLANTA"

Hollywood, CA – May 28, 2015: Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) has teamed with creator/writer John Pence to launch a 3-issue comic book miniseries, “The Ballad of Brighid of Atlanta". BoB marks CIE’s first foray into the superhero and comedy genres. The series description is below:

A boring assignment brings local TV reporter Bridget Primavera face to face with the Cailleach -- the primeval Celtic spirit of the killing frost -- and Bridget's world changes forever. In an instant, she is awakened to her own role and responsibility as the equally ancient, balancing spirit of Brighid, teacher of poets and physicians, guardian of the hearth, and warrior of the Tuatha De Danann... as if she needed one more thing to do.

Creator John Pence comments, “This story is really about how I can't help but stand in awe of all that women do -- my wife, my mom, my friends. They're all badasses. The old Celtic stories of Brighid are so rich with meaning that I've wanted to treat her as a modern character for a long time, letting her be the ultimate hero who can caricature all that badassness in terms we can understand and cheer for, while sneakily, subtly reinforcing how much more important home and hearth are than any of the two-fisted action." John continues, “Thank goodness Creative Impulse is giving me the opportunity to tell this crazy story, and thank goodness for Joe Koziarski's pitch-perfect art. Get ready. It's about to get primeval earth-mamma up in here."

CIE CEO Jan Lucanus adds, “’Ballad’ is very different from the rest of the CIE catalogue in tone and execution, but at its core it’s a perfect fit. John’s writing style is witty, organic, and honest. There is a certain charm in his use profanities to articulate a family narrative that is incredibly uplifting."

BoB will debut on June 22nd – Summer solstice – part of a Pagan holiday release schedule in the theme of the protagonist. The comics will be available on major digital comic stores and mobile reading services simultaneously. CIE and Nine Dot Entertainment’s Patrick Brennan, the creative executive behind Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland", are jointly leading transmedia development for the BoB property. 08.14.14THE LEADING MIXED MARTIAL ARTS COMIC BOOK LAUNCHES A NEW LIVE ACTION FILM, “JFH: RETRIBUTION TASK FORCE”

Hollywood, CA – August 14, 2014: Last July, the creators of “JFH: Justice For Hire" – one of the most downloaded martial-arts-themed titles on the comic book market – launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund a new live action short film. This July, the film entitled “JFH: Retribution Task Force" (RTF), premiered at San Diego Comic Con’s Superhero Kung Fu Extravaganza to a strong reception from a crowd of over 500 fans. The film launched online today.

The story is set in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - a city that, in real life, is considered to be the bloodiest city in the world due to rampant public acts of violence, especially towards women, by groups called Raskol Gangs. In the film, a native woman is kidnapped and held for ransom by a Raskol Gang, and it’s up to her brother, Otto (played by Ahmed Best of “Star Wars") to get her back. Otto seeks out the heroes at Justice For Hire to aid him in his quest, and the stage is set for the ensuing martial-arts-heavy action. The ensemble cast includes professional fighting champion Maximillion Chen, Sean Brosnan (HBO’s “Generation Kill"), JFH creative team members Mercer Boffey (FOX’s “Rake") and father/son JFH creators and martial arts champions Jan C. Childress and Jan Lucanus. The story is based on a concept by award-winning writer/director Aurore Barry, whom also portrays the new character Debutante Renegade, a gun-toting badass. Lucanus and Barry co-wrote and co-directed the film, with fight scenes coordinated by stunt veteran Mike Mukatis (“Transformers 4").

Aside from the film establishing the tone for a live action “JFH" feature film and episodic series, the filmmakers have a very clear intention to raise awareness on the injustices happening in PNG right now. “I like the opportunity to tell a classic story with a new approach," says Aurore Barry. “I’m excited about how this project can influence the world, and the world of JFH."

“RTF" marks the first co-production between Creative Impulse Films and RCJ Machado Productions - an offshoot company of the RCJ Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu martial arts franchise helmed by the five iconic Machado Brothers. John Machado (of David Mamet’s “Redbelt") is an executive producer on the film, and plays the character Raam, an expert private military soldier. “I believe in this project. I’ve been a part of the development process from the start and it’s great to see it materializing."

Shot in 4K resolution for a $20K budget, a handpicked team of independent visual effects artists, as well as visual effects companies Basilic Fly Studios (“Captain America: Winter Soldier"), Digital Reality Films, and TnT, contributed to the 10-minute short film. Postproduction sound company Evil Rocketship (“Spiders"), colorist Todd Leykamp (A&E’s “Longmire"), and editor Andrew Piñon round out the post team supervised by Lucanus and Barry.

CREATIVE IMPULSE PUBLISHING CONTINUES ‘THE LATIN COMICS INITIATIVE’ WITH “THE GIRL FROM THE WELL"

New York, NY – April 9, 2014 - Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) and Nine Dot Entertainment (NDE) continue to roll out their bilingual comic book slate (‘The Latin Comics Initiative’) with the premiere issue of “The Girl from the Well" by David Anton “Puste" this Wednesday. The comic will be simultaneously available to both English and Spanish speaking audiences on various computing platforms via digital distributor ComiXology.

“The Girl from the Well", available April 9th, is an original mystery/horror story. Outraged by the brutal real-life murder of a young girl in his hometown, “Puste" channels his frustrations onto the comic book page, envisioning himself as a hardened detective intent on solving the case by any means necessary. The property was created, written, and drawn by David Anton “Puste" of Alicante, Spain.

“Puste" has done artwork for Zenescope Entertainment and is currently doing cover art and interior page illustrations for “WWE Superstars" (Papercutz). His previous work with CIE includes the inks for the critically acclaimed MMA series “JFH: Justice For Hire" as well as Antonio Rojo’s “The Misterians".

“Puste" comments on the inspiration for “The Girl from the Well", “It all started with a horrible car accident. I was incapacitated for years and all I could do was watch movies and read. That’s how I came across the article about the girl. I was so enraged that as soon as my hand healed I began drawing it."

CIE’s Andrew Vannata, the producer behind ‘The Latin Comics Initiative’, adds, “Puste spins one hell of a murder mystery story here. I could see this one playing out over numerous issues and translating brilliantly across platforms to TV and film. I pray he doesn’t keep us waiting too long for more!"

As part of ‘The Latin Comics Initiative’, CIE and NDE previously released “Asusto" by Franco Céspedes and “The Misterians" by Antonio Rojo. New titles from additional creators are to follow later this month.

The comic will be simultaneously available to both English and Spanish speaking audiences on various computing platforms via digital distributor ComiXology.

“The Misterians", available April 2nd, is an original science-fiction/horror story about a group of child mediums being groomed by the mysterious Dr. Griffin as weapons against powerful evil entities. Antonio is known for being the lead artist of the “Serpent Wars" graphic novel (Markosia), as well as the lead artist of CIE’s critically acclaimed MMA comic book series, "JFH: Justice For Hire". CREATIVE IMPULSE PUBLISHING LAUNCHES 'THE LATIN COMICS INITIATIVE' WITH “ASUSTO"

New York, NY – March 3, 2014 - Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) and Nine Dot Entertainment (NDE) are set to launch a slate of bilingual comic books dubbed ‘The Latin Comics Initiative’ with the premiere issue of “Asusto" by Franco Céspedes this Wednesday. With all of the comics under the initiative created by Latino artists, the mission is to showcase their unique stories and talents for a global market. The comics will be simultaneously available to both English and Spanish speaking audiences on various platforms via digital distributor ComiXology.

“Asusto" will debut on March 5th with the first of what is a 4-issue horror miniseries inspired by characters from classic Costa Rican and Latin American folktales. Among the frightening characters featured throughout the story are the beastly El Cadejos (The Black Devil Dog), the widely known La Llorona (The Weeping Woman), the beautiful and seductive La Segua (The Horse Lady) and the grotesque Costa Rican creature La Tulevieja (which CIE has dubbed ‘The Banana Hat Bastard’). “Asusto" was created, written, and drawn by Franco Céspedes of Costa Rica’s Heredia, Santa Bárbara.

Franco is the founder of Quinema Animation Studios where he develops comics, digital advertising animation and original entertainment, including the 2010 acclaimed animated series “Chotico", which was broadcast on Costa Rican national television. Franco comments on “Asusto", “This comic represents my roots, my town, the countryside and customs I always carry with me. Latin American stories are often full of mystery and tragedy, but told through a splendid lens of wild beauty. That is what I’ve tried to accomplish with ‘Asusto’."

The development of the “Asusto" property for CIE and NDE was directed by Andrew Vannata, producer of such acclaimed CIE titles as Paula Garces’ “Aluna" and “JFH: Justice For Hire - Rise of Retribution". Andrew comments, “Bringing these unique stories from Latin America to a broader audience has been a truly fulfilling experience for me personally, and I expect that comic readers of all stripes as well as lovers of global culture will soon share in my enthusiasm for these titles. With ‘Asusto’ especially, Franco is tapping into something with much bigger potential, perhaps a sign of more things to come."

NDE principal Patrick Brennan adds, “The geographic boundaries of content are eroding, and it’s important for next generation content providers to cater to an increasingly international audience. This is the first step in a bold initiative to offer compelling multi-platform content to fans across cultural borders."

“Asusto" issues 2, 3 & 4 are scheduled for release on March 12, 19 & 26, respectively, with new titles from additional creators to follow in April.

Rounding out the cinematic dimension of the piece is Davide Berardi’s compelling sound design and music score. “JFH" debuted at the 2012 Superhero Kung-Fu Extravaganza at the San Diego Comic Con International.

07.09.13“JFH: JUSTICE FOR HIRE” LAUNCHES ON KICKSTARTER TO FUND LIVE ACTION FIGHT SEQUENCE ADAPTED FROM COMIC BOOK

-- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --

Hollywood, CA – July 9, 2013 – The creators of the highly downloaded mixed martial arts comic book series "JFH: Justice For Hire" have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a short action film. The short narrative will act as a high-production value camera test for their upcoming feature film, which was announced at 2012's San Diego Comic Con Martial Arts Extravaganza.

The campaign showcases videos from the creative team and cast members, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu master and Ultimate Fighting Championship trainer, John Machado, who sits on the action choreography team for "JFH" as well as being a cast member. Additional cast and crew will be announced each week for the 30-day span of the campaign.

"JFH" co-creator Jan Lucanus remarks, "The 'JFH' Kickstarter is about showcasing our vision for the project on a large scale, before our production partners put significant capital behind a feature film. The comics have gotten us attention for years, and the live action videos we've done in the past worked well for building our brand, but now it's time for something bigger. With the help of Kickstarter supporters, we’re going to make a short film that looks and feels like a feature and show off several new martial arts camera techniques we’ve designed."

The short film is entitled "JFH: Retribution Task Force", and the campaign video states that it will unite characters from across the "JFH" Universe for a single cause: stopping the Rascal Gangs of Papua New Guinea. "JFH" co-writer and co-director Aurore Barry comments that the story of the short is inspired by real-life accounts of violence against women committed by gangs in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Jan continues, "The story is an opportunity for us to shed some light on a subject that many are unaware of. Action fans across the globe will be excited to see the cast we've put together to take down some real bad guys, and the rewards we've made available for anyone that backs our project are all fun and have significant value. A few of them are even life-changing."

Kickstarter rewards for backing the "JFH" project range from a year's supply of digital comic books to personal coaching sessions with any member of the action choreography team, from being a cast member to having an executive producer credit, and more.

Jan Lucanus, Aurore Barry, and other members of the "JFH" team will attend the San Diego Comic Con next week to for a panel at the Martial Arts Extravaganza hosted by Ric Meyers, as well as have a presence at Creative Impulse booth #2447. A link to the "JFH" Kickstarter is below.

06.10.13CIE’s “JFH: JUSTICE-FOR-HIRE” WINS A 2013 SILVER TELLY

New York, NY – June 10, 2013 – The Telly Awards has named Creative Impulse Entertainment as a Silver winner, the council’s highest honor, in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for Best Use of Animation in Online Video in the martial arts-themed animated piece, “JFH: Justice-For-Hire – The Motion Comic Animation". Nearly 11,000 film and video production entries from all 50 states and numerous countries make up the competition.

“JFH: Justice-For-Hire – The Motion Comic Animation" was adapted from the original comic book series “JFH: Justice-For-Hire" under the direction of co-creator Jan Lucanus. To craft the visual style, lead animator Zach Shelton and creative partner Melissa Hensley (both of Willow Road Animation) combined original comic art from veteran Spanish artist Antonio Rojo with 3D modeling techniques and CrazyTalk Animator lip-sync technology from Reallusion, a vital partner on the project. The work debuted at the 2012 Martial Arts Extravaganza at the San Diego Comic Con International.

The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video," said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “CIE’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production."

Jan Lucanus is the Founder and President of CIE and Director of the "JFH" motion-comic. He comments, "CIE and its collaborators are really touched by this award, especially considering the art form of motion-comics is still so young. What we really tried to emphasize during the animation process was the pacing, and by that I mean adapting the format of the comic book page to the screen and having it come across as authentic – to look, sound, and feel like a movie. That's the goal of CIE's work on every platform – to convey cinematic experience."

Lead Animator Zach Shelton adds, "Receiving the Telly was such a pleasant surprise. But this is really a team win. The animation wouldn’t look half as good without Jan’s visionary creative direction as well as critical ingredients from fellow artisans, namely the stylized original artwork and theatrical quality sound design. It has been an inspiring journey."

“Working with a strong cast headed by the talented Ahmed Best and witnessing Jan & Zach’s creative drive was a true honor," said “JFH" Producer John Henry Reeves. Executive Producer Andrew Vannata chimes in, "I think Zach only now caught up on lost sleep during the lead-up to San Diego Comic Con. And we couldn't be happier that he's waking up to the Telly. She's beautiful."

ULTRA VANITY TESTOSTERONE™ Debuts with The Freestyled Mixtape.

Award winning writer/director/actor Aldous Davidson (TV's Blue Bloods, The Guy Code, and last summer's The Dark Knight Rises) and Creative Impulse transmedia artist Jan Lucanus team up in the rap duo project Ultra Vanity Testosterone. The duo's debut hip hop release is a completely improvised collection of songs entitled "The Freestyled Mixtape".

Aldous Davidson remarks, "The Freestyle Mixtape started as an experiment but quickly evolved into a pretty dope learning experience for me. It helped usher in a growth period for me as far as lyricism goes. I had always heard about Jay-Z or Lil Wayne being able to go up to the mic and spit flawlessly without written material and thanks to the Freestyle Mixtape, this is something I can do now. It forces you to think three to four rhymes ahead and seriously up your concentration level. We would freestyle in sections. Four to five bars here. six or seven bars there. Eventually an entire rough but rugged verse would be created. Jan was a great person to do this with as well. His love for hip hop and self-expression made it a fun and enjoyable project. You could see each of us getting better and better at it the more songs we made."

CIE's Jan Lucanus adds, "Aldous was the first true entertainer I saw during film school at NYU. Even before we met, I watched him in fellow students' films and was impressed by his screen presence. When I found out he rapped and did comedy (he even had a Gamepro-sponsored web series), I was blown away. Aldous is an artist that uses several forms of media to express himself, an attribute that is not only part of the Creative Impulse mantra, but my own personal lifestyle." Jan continues, "For me, the UVT project is about experiencing the aftermath of breaking up with a serious girlfriend. It's about looking for something outside of yourself (which is where the fun, cool, and comedy resides in the music), then coming to the realization that what you really seek is inside of you (the more introspective songs). There's a range of unique energy in UVT from party to pop to empowering, while maintaining a raw New York influence. We think people will feel it."

Mr. Butterscotch himself, Paul Shull, comments, "UVT makes me want to hit people with swords, seriously... I LOVE IT!"

10.10.12Creative Impulse Music and Mr. Butterscotch Launch “The Artist of the Month” Initiative - First Up: Kingwhistler

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - Los Angeles, CA: Creative Impulse Entertainment’s music offshoot, Creative Impulse Music, and rock ‘n roll manager Paul Shull’s “Mr. Butterscotch" lifestyle brand are teaming to launch “The Artist of the Month" initiative to highlight burgeoning music talent.  The Artist of the Month gets an email and social network blast for their work on Creative Impulse’s social media and website, as well as consultation with Paul’s company to discuss their career and potential co-ventures encompassing not only touring and recording initiative’s, but also licensing and music placement and marketing opportunities worldwide.  The inaugural Artist is Nick Aliberti of the country/rock/bluegrass fusion band, Kingwhistler.

“Paul aka (Mr. Butterscotch) has been an international Industry insider and band manager for 15 years and worked with some of the largest artists on the planet.  CIE is already developing a very awesome comic book with him that will leverage the transmedia crossover of Paul’s music relationships, our comic book know how, and the inherently cool, tattoo-studded, world class fencing character that Paul embodies everyday.  This alliance to highlight musical artists is an organic no-brainer.  All forms of art and entertainment are connected, and we saw an opportunity in having access to the talent pool that CIE is surrounded by to shine a spotlight on people that are doing really cool stuff in music.  People that we ourselves have listened to or have seen perform that we simply dig," states Jan Lucanus, CEO of Creative Impulse.  Jan continues on the subject of The Artist of the Month, “Nick Aliberti has something special.  His songwriting is poetic and cinematic.  His command of the stage is magnetic and inspiring.  He literally just launched his band and has been burning up some of Hollywood’s most prestigious venues.  He is one to watch and support."

On The Artist of the Month’s Nick Aliberti and his band Kingwhistler, Paul Shull comments, “I was recently turned on to this developing artist and there are definite gems here, I found his lyrics are poignant and thoughtful, I’m into it!"
Nick Aliberti has recently launched an online fundraiser for Kingwhistler’s debut album, “The Grass Roots Campaign", on Indiegogo.  For more information on Nick and Kingwhistler, visit:

07.16.12CREATIVE IMPULSE ENTERTAINMENT TO CO-PRODUCE FILM & WEBSERIES OF ITS TOP DOWNLOADED MARTIAL ARTS COMIC “JUSTICE FOR HIRE” WITH SPILLWALL PRODUCTIONS

SAN DIEGO, CA / July 16, 2012 – Jan Lucanus, founder and CEO of Creative Impulse Entertainment, announced at Comic Con’s Superhero Kung Fu Extravaganza that their long-running comic book series “Justice For Hire" (http://justice-for-hire.com/live/) will be adapted for both the web and as a feature film as part of its new pact with Spillwall Productions.

The critically acclaimed comic book series is one of the most downloaded martial arts comics in the world. When originally released in print in 2008, “Justice For Hire" was the first comic book in history to be released with a DVD of live-action episodic content packaged with every comic book issue. The video content showcased supplemental storylines that tied into every comic issue. Even at its beginning, Creative Impulse has always looked to utilizing several platforms in releasing their content; and it was its transmedia approach that made Spillwall Productions a perfect fit for adapting “Justice For Hire."

“JFH has attracted great opportunities over the years, but the challenge has always been choosing the right partners for the project," said Lucanus from the podium. “After our digital media consultant Tim Roberts sparked the conversation, the deal with Spillwall was an easy choice for us, as their transmedia mantra complements our process of developing and producing content for a narrative universe. That translates into JFH reaching more eyeballs than ever before and delivering a higher caliber of cinematic martial arts action to the fans that crave it!"

Created by real-life father and son and international martial arts champions, Lucanus and Jan C. Childress, “Justice For Hire" is the action adventure saga, which follows two dads who transform their family business of heroics for hire into a legal industry with their sons.

“We are eager to help bring ‘Justice For Hire’ to the screen," said Todd Shotz, Executive Vice-President of Spillwall Productions, “as we know that our audiences will love the martial arts action, grounded in thoughtful philosophy and positive social messaging."

Creative Impulse chose to partner with Spillwall Productions, a subsidiary of Kairos Transmedia Inc. (www.kairostransmedia.com), because of its dedication to age-appropriate productions for kids that are aspirational in nature, while, as Shotz adds, “still keep their edge." In addition to television and theatrical releases, Spillwall Productions content will be featured on SpillWall.com, the company’s flagship distribution platform, scheduled for wide-scale launch in September 2012. At the Comic Con event Sam Levine, Executive Vice-President of Spillwall.com was present to make the announcement, adding “the marital arts and comic book communities that love ‘Justice For Hire’ are about to get it from all media platforms, and Spillwall couldn’t be more excited for this partnership."

10.15.11CIE Teams with Foundation Features and Rock 'n Roll Talent Manager Paul Shull on the "Mr. Butterscotch" Graphic Novel

October 15, 2011 - New York Comic Con: Comic book transmedia company Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE), film and television production company Foundation Features, and rock 'n roll talent manager Paul Shull, announce a graphic novel based on the upcoming television series, "Mr. Butterscotch", following the adventures of Shull as he travels the globe dealing with his collective of rock stars.

Foundation Features' Executive in Charge of Television Rob LaBelle comments, "Foundation Features couldn't be more thrilled about teaming up with CIE to turn Mr. Butterscotch into a kick-ass graphic novel. Butterscotch’s real life already plays out like a graphic novel, so this is really a perfect opportunity for us. And CIE's the absolute best there is so Butterscotch couldn’t be in better hands. We’re currently producing the TV series Mr. Butterscotch, a reality-doc series following the maniacal adventures of Mr. Butterscotch, the wildly charismatic, heavily inked madman as he pursues the biggest game of all, the wild rock star. Butterscotch travels the world hanging with rock’s royalty and uses the tips and leads he gets from industry friends and music business insiders to propel his quest to find the next rock superstars. And as the bad ass, sword fighting superhero in his own graphic novel, Butterscotch will take it all to the next level of insanity. The Butterscotch graphic novel is an incredible compliment to the TV series. It’s a dynamic and unique approach to building a fan base in anticipation of the series as well as demonstrating the depth and richness of the Butterscotch brand."

Paul Shull adds, "The new partnership between Creative Impulse Entertainment and Foundation Features to make a graphic novel about me is quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to my ego."

CIE CEO Jan Lucanus continues, "The 'Mr. Butterscotch' project will be a game changer for comic books and transmedia integration. We're all pretty stoked on this one!"

CIE's flagship comic book, "JFH: Justice-For-Hire" has become one of the most downloaded martial arts comic books on the world's leading digital comic book store, Comics by ComiXology™. Foundation Features production credits include "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus", "Altitude", and the rock 'n roll feature-documentary"Hard Core Logo 2". Paul Shull has worked with a slew of musical talent, including the Foo Fighters, MIA, and Robbie Williams.

07.01.10Comic-Con-Bound Father/Son Writing Team Continue Gold Medal Fighting Streak to Inspire Art

New York, New York – July 1, 2010: In the midst of industry wide mayhem in preparation for San Diego’s Comic-Con: International – the largest pop culture event of its kind – veteran comic book writer, Jan C. Childress, and son and writing partner, Jan Lucanus, continue their unique integration of art and fighting after winning four gold medals for the second consecutive time at the latest International Chinese Martial Arts Competition (ICMAC) in the sport of Push Hands (T’ui Shou), a contact sport similar to Judo, Sumo, and freestyle wrestling, derived from the martial art of Tai Chi Chuan.

Lucanus, CEO and founder of Creative Impulse Entertainment, will have his animated directorial debut with the upcoming comic book and animation “Aluna" starring fan-favorite actress Paula Garces (“The Shield", “Harold & Kumar") that will premiere at Comic-Con. After a tournament in which no points were scored against him, Lucanus discusses the balancing of work and training, “If I don’t train, it’s difficult for me to work, to be creative. The sensitive yet explosive style of fighting that is Tai Chi Push Hands provides a sense of clarity for me in all that I do, which is why I am so adamant about popularizing the sport in the U.S. – I’m sure it will enhance so many lives."

Childress, who is currently preparing a spin-off series for the critically acclaimed “JFH: Justice-For-Hire" mixed martial arts comic book series that will be announced at Comic-Con, adds, “I am grateful to the event’s promoter, Master Nick Scrima, for continuing to broaden the awareness of Tai Chi Chuan and other martial arts through these tournaments, which not only provide an arena for competition, but a forum to exchange ideas and forge new friendships."

The father son duo collectively took home gold in each category of Push Hands: Fixed Step – upper body and joint manipulation in which opponent who moves first losses a point, Restricted Step – a game akin to fencing in which opponents throw each other off a center line, and Extreme Moving Step – opponents are push or thrown out of an arena for points. In the Extreme, Lucanus and Childress met in the finals, but chose not to fight. “I’m not going to fight my Dad for a medal. He and Mom gave martial arts to me, so he deserves the gold".

Lucanus and Childress compete on Grandmaster William C. C. Chen’s International Push Hands Team in New York, with Lucanus as the team-appointed captain. In addition to a slew of major announcements planned for Comic-Con this July, the father/son duo is training for the Tai Chi World Cup in Taiwan this October, but will compete in the ICMAC’s Internal & Push Hands Competition next – just days before Comic-Con.

Lucanus, Childress, and actress Paula Garces will hold a signing event for the “Aluna" comic at the Creative Impulse Entertainment booth #617 during Comic-Con, July 22-25. 04.01.10The Acclaimed “JFH: Justice-For-Hire – The Brawl” Premieres on YouTube’s MMA Web Series

New York, New York – April 1, 2010: The web series counterpart to the hit mixed martial arts comic book/DVD action series, “JFH: Justice-For-Hire", premieres its highly anticipated “Brawl" episode today. Directed by Jan Lucanus,“JFH" co-creator and CEO of the brand’s home, Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE), filming was done using new camera techniques aimed at intensifying action – dubbed “Weapon Camera Movement™" by developers Lucanus and “JFH" lead choreographer, Ian Morgan. Both are real-life martial arts fighting champions.

“Weapon is based on a handful of principles that we’re keeping under wraps for now, but are sure to keep the viewer fully engrossed," states Lucanus. “It is truly a system. We wrote the rules and stick to them, but with an open mind. ‘Brawl’ is really about the story, as it is a prequel to the ‘JFH’ comic book series, so fans will really get into it, but if you’re new to the characters, you’ll still love the action".

Ed Pollard, managing editor of Black Belt Magazine, the world’s leading martial arts publication, was privy to an advance screening of “JFH: Brawl" and came away with a notable reaction. “JFH: Brawl delivers raw excitement in its rooftop free-for-all. The camera work puts the viewer directly into the action and gives viewers a sense of being part of the action. Cheers to the JFH production team at CIE for knowing what works and choreographing this scene with top-flight martial arts action and credible stunt work. This is as real as it gets without being a hidden police camera at the scene of a crime!"

“’JFH Brawl’ is just a taste of what’s to come from the “JFH" series and our action stunt team," said choreographer Morgan. “The camera techniques used in ‘Brawl’ happen quickly, and we’ve already moved onto more elaborate visual formulas in recent choreography sessions for upcoming ‘JFH’ productions, so consider this a preview."

Jan Lucanus and Ian Morgan co-founded the stunt company Martial Arts Creative Team, which designs all of the comic book and live action sequences for CIE’s roster of content. Lucanus writes and develops for several multiplatform comic book properties, including “JFH: Justice-For-Hire", currently the most downloaded martial arts-themed comic book on iTunes’ Comics Application – the world’s leading mobile comic book store – and is directing the upcoming comic book and animation,"Aluna", starring Actress Paula Garces (“Harold & Kumar" film franchise, “The Shield" TV series).

“JFH Brawl™" is available on the “JFH" YouTube Channel: www.YouTube.com/JusticeForHire. For more information, please visit: www.CreativeImpulseEnt.com. To download iTunes’ Comics App for free, go to www.iTunes.com/apps/Comics.

03.30.10Father/Son Writing Team of “JFH: Justice-For-Hire” Comic Book Fight and Win Martial Arts Gold Medals

Dallas, Texas – March 27, 2010: Jan Lucanus, founder and CEO of Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) and co-creator of the hit mixed martial arts comic book/live action series, “JFH: Justice-For-Hire", and his father Jan C. Childress, a veteran in the comic book industry and “JFH" co-writer, competed as part of the William C. C. Chen Push Hands Team in the Dallas International Chinese Martial Arts Competition (ICMAC) this weekend and won four gold medals in three separate divisions.

Push hands, the sparring aspect of the distinctly soft martial art of Tai Chi Chuan, can most easily be described as a contest of space control, and has three competitive iterations: Fixed Step (explosive joint/body mass manipulation where players lose a point if feet are moved while sparring), Restricted Step (similar to fencing where players must knock each other off a center line), and Moving Step (freestyle movement in a ring with throws akin to wrestling and Judo). For the first time in the United States, Extreme Push Hands was introduced into the competition circuit by Dr. Shie-Ming Hwang and event organizer Nick Scrima, taking the sport to a more aggressive level with rules closer to freestyle grappling in an effort to make the sport a breeding ground for professional Mixed Martial Artists with roots in Tai Chi Chuan.

“This is the only way for Tai Chi to get the respect it deserves as a martial art," states Lucanus, who won the gold n the 175 Lb. weight class in both the Fixed Step and the Extreme Push Hands divisions. “Dad and I have competed in this sport for years, and it has been difficult to find competitions in the US that allow Tai Chi to grow as a fighting style." He continues, “Grandmaster William C. C. Chen and the Chen Family have encouraged to our team to experiment and develop the art over the years. It is truly ground-breaking for Dr. Hwang and Nick Scrima to launch a platform for players to compete on this higher level."

Mr. Childress, who took gold in both the Fixed and Restricted Step divisions, adds, “The matches were superbly refereed and the players were all down for the elevated competition. The fact that I almost got both arms broken only underscored the intensity of the game. There's nothing like the sound of your joints cracking while in the throes of competition!" He continues, “I must say, too, that nothing beats the sheer thrill and pride in watching my son perform. That is priceless."

Both Lucanus and Childress credit their training partners on the William C. C. Chen Push Hands Team for their achievements in the competition. Lucanus and Childress co-write on several multiplatform comic book properties, including “JFH: Justice-For-Hire". Childress’ solo comic book titles, “Tengu: A Ninja/Samurai Love Story", and “Durga: The Geomancer", are CIE’s best-selling digital comic books on iTunes’ Comics Application – the world’s leading mobile comic book store.

The comic and animation script, written by producer/screenwriter David Cornue, is being directed in both forms of media by Creative Impulse's founder and award winning filmmaker, Jan Lucanus, best known for his critically acclaimed "JFH: Justice-For-Hire" mixed martial arts comic book/live action crossover series (the first comic series in the history of the industry to provide supplemental DVD content with each comic issue). "JFH" lead artist Antonio Rojo is reteaming with Jan on "Aluna", and collaborates for the first time with renowned character designer Chadwick Coleman to produce the art.

"Aluna is a passion project of mine and it’s great to be working with Jan and his team at Creative Impulse," said Garces. "They're the new generation of comics and media." Jan Lucanus adds, "Paula is talented, intelligent, and awesome. I've been a fan of hers for sometime, so the opportunity to collaborate with Garces and Further Lane Productions is exciting."

Ms. Garces can be seen on several upcoming episodes of the hit SyFy Channel original series, "Warehouse 13" and on “The Look", her hit fashion magazine style show, which she co-created, executive produced and hosts for Mun2 Network. Lucanus' "JFH: Justice-For-Hire" series and other Creative Impulse comics are now available inside iTunes' Comics App for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, as well as in comic shops internationally.

10.26.07“Justice-For-Hire’s Fight Night at Von Dutch LA” Recap: A Groundbreaking Evening of Fighting, Comics, and the Arts.

2007 marks the official launch year of three new Creative Impulse Entertainment (CIE) companies-- three divisions to develop and produce intellectual property in film, comic books, music, and videogames. Creative Impulse Entertainment's vision is to uplift society through a fusion of creativity and multiculturalism targeted to the broadest international marketplace. During the last nine months, CIE has achieved the following milestones:

• Unleashed a groundbreaking new martial arts-based camera system that . wowed fans at the ’07 San Diego Comic Con,
• Musical artist Sage Michael developed the first CIE album while touring
with multi-platinum recording artist, Ludacris,
• Pre-released three new comic book series in the graphic literature
industry, and
• Launched prep for CIE's first videogame title.

And the year is far from over.

CIE's latest exciting venture teamed the company with international lifestyle brand, Von Dutch, whose world-renowned brand ranges from custom motorcycles to designer watches and an ultra-chic clothing line. In a major Los Angeles event that took place on Thursday, September 27, 2007, Von Dutch partnered up with CIE to promote the latter's flagship franchise, “JFH: Justice-For-Hire."

“JFH is the world's first official ‘Ultra-Realistic’ mixed martial arts comic book. Period," said CIE Chief Executive Officer Jan Lucanus. "We are the first to take real fighters' moves in vivid detail, and put them on the comic page. We want people to know that the action and story that we deliver with JFH are all about quality and being socially conscious," added Lucanus, who is also the JFH creator/co-writer and a long-time martial artist. He went on to say, "Kene G at Von Dutch saw our JFH comic and approached me about doing an event together. He made it clear that our goals were the same. When I heard that the owner of Von Dutch, Tonny Sorenson, was an Olympic Tae kwon Do champ, it was a go. No one has ever done an event like this. That’s the definition of ground-breaking!"

Dubbed “Justice-For-Hire presents… Fight Night at Von Dutch LA", the event celebrated the official launch of the JFH: Justice-For-Hire comic book in Diamond Comic Distributors Previews catalogue, which hit stands on September 26. To consumers, that means that the first issue will be available in comic book stores in December, packaged with a live martial arts action-packed DVD. The comic book's release will plant the seeds for the JFH multimedia franchise, which will include a feature film, videogame, and television/internet spin-offs. This very special evening also benefited MTV’s Life Beat AIDS organization.

Headlining the event was world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) master, John Machado. Machado - choreographer and cast member of the upcoming David Mamet mixed martial arts film Redbelt - showcased the power and beauty of BJJ with his purple-belt student Luis Lee, while simultaneously promoting his upcoming comic book Faixa-Preta with writer/artist Chadwick Coleman, which is slated for a 2008 international release through Creative Impulse Publishing

Also on the billing for the event were some of the top martial artists in the world fight circuit, including World Champion San Shou Fighter Max Chen, and U.S. Champion San Da fighter Ian Morgan, both of whom painstakingly choreograph all the action in the comic book pages as part of the “JFH" Martial Arts Creative Team – the driving force behind the comic’s martial arts authenticity. The two champions will do the same for the upcoming “JFH" feature film.

“Everyone fighting at this event is also a character in the comic, and will each reprise that roll in the ‘JFH’ feature. This is truly a one-of-a-kind event," said Lucanus, who also be stepped into the ring for a bout. “As a creative team, we are a very hands-on group. It’s important that people know that what they see in the comic is real, not some fluffy superhero-style action written and drawn by someone who has never gotten punched in the face."

In addition to explosive demo fights, there were also martial arts demonstrations from Lucanus’ father, JFH co-writer and President of CIE’s publishing division, Jan C. Childress - an international champion T’ai Chi Push Hands fighter and martial arts Hall-of-Famer – as well as an SLD (Filipino live-blade/stick fighting) demo from master Jessy Abrescy with Ahmed Best and his team. The event's program also featured performances from special musical guests The Benefits as well as a dazzling cirque halftime show from Cirque Du Soleil’s Realis.

The pacemaker event drew professionals and celebrities from the film, music, videogame, comic book, and martial arts communities. The select audience was also the first to see the limited edition commemorative “JFH/Von Dutch" T-shirts that will be carried in Von Dutch stores worldwide. The proceeds from the T-shirts will go to charity.

“We packed Von Dutch with 1,100 people," stated Lucanus. “ I looked around and said ‘Wow, all this for JFH? We have expanded so quickly, it is really incredible. Just wait till ’08." Lucanus revealed a tidbit about the future during an interview, “We will be launching a JFH: Justice-For-Hire Youtube channel which will be regularly updated with new fight sequences from our Martial Arts Creative Team, interviews, and more. The site will feature different content than what we release on DVD with the comics. We want people to get to know the team behind JFH. They’re all future action stars with something important and positive to say right now."

For more information, images and videos of the evening,, go to www.Justice-For-Hire.com and www.VonDutch.com.
